GOUINE COMME UN CAMION

It may be quite hard to fathom the importance of the 'Gay Pride' in France for the average liberal english youth. The lack of a proper demonstration on these shores is another debate (does the acceptance of 'camp' means the abandon of political struggle? Is there a latent 'light' homophobia under fashionista acceptance? Is it ok 'as long as they don't get into graphic details etc...).

But in France, the Gay Pride is a real event. Or has been. Recently, it has been submitted to a few blows: they can not use the actual term (some jerk copyrighted it) and now goes under the name 'Marche des Fiertes' (which in French, sorry, could also be the appelation for a right-wing veteran march), its political aspect is drowned in tacky muscle mary cheese house, male gay conformism, chapelwars, minorities inside the minority (all the transgender rainbow stars that doe not fit in the classic box: drag-kings, lesbian transexuals etc...).

Since my days at Pulp, my best friends, my parisian family has been mainly composed of homosexual girls, and I would not change it for all the gold in the world. I am a 'classic' (with a few twists) heterosexual but has always been 100% supportive of their militancy. Always will be I think.

This year, my crew is planning to take part in the float under the 'GOUINE COMME UN CAMION' banner. This may need a bit of franco-english linguistics. In french, and usually in a macho way, one says 'belle comme un camion' for a girl: 'beautiful as a truck'. But butch lesbians are aslo commonly known as 'cammioneuses': truckers. Good slogan I'd say.

But a float cost a lot, more than 4000 euros actually. hence the GOUINATHON' (from 'gouine', dyke in french, and 'telethon') you can chip in to actually see it happen. You don't have to be french, and it may give idea to the new responsibles for the London Pride (including a major nightlife promoter that may be the one to relight the fire), this is an international struggle.

You can watch pictures, movies and learn a bit more about the 'Gouine comme un Camion' manifesto, and contribute here.

there is also a great video here...

Of course, there is a reward. Well, you can download the track without giving anything to this project but I'd be very grateful to those who will actively participate.

About the track, it is rough as 0+0 can only be but also has that unique sense of humor that breeds in the contempt of 'les bien-pensants', whoever they are.

CALIFORNIA CHIP

Picture with no relation to track but did not have my usual folder with me when posting. I've promised myself not to postpone things anymore you see...

Here's one my favorite edit I've done for ages. I-cube did his own take on it for his brilliant Edits du Golem but, in this case, I think the town is big enough for both guns.

My pleasure is not in technicality (it almost never is but this is a fairly simple cut and paste job). It's in the electronic balearic tease, the artificial sunshine lick (oh, the tat pops back) before the 'west cold' vocal comes in. Proper electronic pop from a band we will come back to in the near future...

FOR THE MORE RECENT STUFF, THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE...

...over and out.

A FEW THING FROM...PATRICE BAUMEL

After all these years, it takes quite a lot from a club to impress me and when asked about my favorite clubs, I sometimes wish I was a one-armed hillbilly not too good with chopping wood.

TROUW in Amsterdam (a city that had proven very disappointing since my early memories of Dimitri at the Roxy-who is actually resident for special all-nighters, and still ahs the magic from what I've heard, at the above mentioned place.

Not only the club itself is amazing, located in an old printing factory but they sometimes move the one of the floor to the best room I've played in ages. Dark as the pit of hell, clever minimal lighting, rough and ready like an east german garage circa 1993. The vibe. Where Black Magic is the religion de rigueur. Not to mention the now ditched performance night where I saw Jesus covered in shit and candles in the wrong candelabra.

Patrice Baumel is one of the residents at Trouw. And has been a firmn favorite producer of mine. Him and Nuno Santos play without concession a mix of shoegaze, lo-fi trance and strange disco. Patrice even control the brilliant visuals at the same time. Pretty cool. And, hey, he makes loads of edits. You can find them here for nada.

I picked this one out of nostalgia though I hate the word.

THE JUNKYARD IS REOPEN!!!!!

The sound has been turned on again. And I'm, this time, leaving the amps plugged in, overdrive being a danger we all can cope with.

There was many reasons to this long silence, reasons I do not really want to dwell in but I've managed to amass tons of giveaways. Lost time was not time lost.

We will come back to the Robert Johnson book (including a 20 pages talk between Lord Weatherall and myself), a freeload of edits from the 'A Few Things From IS' second cd (for those who did not get it), our support for the 'Gouines Comme un Camion' cause (????), special edits of the early Pulp days, a TSUGI original hour mix, collaborations with GET A ROOM!, new IAFL stuff etc...

For now, and once in a while, a pop up 12" may appear. Meaning 4 tracks with a theme, split up in 4 downloads, with an original sleeve to be printed with the last of the edits.

I've been wanting for a while to give my own take on the 'nu-old house' revival (from xxx to yyy, blah blah, you don't need me...). So here's the first of these TRANSMISSIONS OF THE WHEELCHAIR. These are on going works but I'll let you know of newer versions.

Edits will now be posted in WAV or AIFF too... When you've been away from home, you need to bring back presents for all non? In other words, check this here place more than I've been, it may be worth it.

l'avenir dure longtemps.

TRACK NOW AVAILABLE

l'avenir dure longtemps.

A beautiful french phrase coined, I think by Louis aLthusser, roughly translable by 'what comes ahead will last a long time. But does not do it justice and defo not a good tattoo like here...

We are still deep in grieving following the death of Joel. We can't begin to tell
you how much we miss him.

But I've always gone back to work in the dark hours... so...

This is an easy one as the original was reminded to me by my friend Geoffroy from brussels whom I'll play with next week. I've just tweaked it to make it more playable. all is in there.

Some may say it shows my dark side but am not that sure...
